How I work with people
The way I like to work is to get a preliminary sketch to the client based on a careful analysis of the description and/or the reference I’m given. After viewing that initial sketch, the client can then give me feedback and based on that I can make sketch revisions until we have a drawing that nails the concept. I then use that approved drawing as the template to develop the illustration in the computer which is an excellent way to allow for further editing if needed.
This method certainly shows how the more researched a project is, the better it is for me and the people I’m working with. Even though it’s the role of the artist to create a design or illustration, no artist can read a person’s mind. So when good source material and art direction are provided it takes much less art time which also means less money.
I like to communicate though the whole process, always giving dates as to when people can expect a drawing or revision from me so, nothing is left open ended.
The finished file is then delivered via email or by other electronic means depending on the size.
Pricing and Terms
I’m an artist for hire and am very accustomed to situations where full rights and ownership get signed over to the client. With this in mind, I can sign a contract from the client for that purpose or, I can supply my own contract to clients who would want one.
I quote jobs anticipating the amount of art time involved and like to do progressive payments, where the client pays pays amounts determined ahead of time at different points in the project as it progresses. I accept check, PayPal, Venmo or Apple Pay. I supply full contact information and exact dates as to when clients should expect to receive artwork in the progression of a project. (ie. initial sketch, revisions, final art etc.) And throughout the process clients can give me feedback and art direction to make sure the end result is what they want.
I provide artwork through email and electronic file transfer as well as on media. Most often I provide native Adobe Illustrator or photoshop files or in other industry standard image formats. I can also ship original artwork done with traditional techniques.
